The Suzuki coupling reaction is used to obtain biphenyl compounds via cross-coupling. For this purpose aryl halides are reacted with aryl boric acid derivatives. CABB has extensive production expertise in the safe handling of these processes.

The Grignard reaction is a method for linking carbon-carbon single bonds. In order to produce the corresponding alcohols, mainly nucleophilic alkyl or aryl magnesium halides are reacted with electrophilic carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes, ketones or esters. Grignard reagents are also important for the preparation of boron derivatives, which are subsequently used in the Suzuki coupling reaction.

The reaction of aromatic nitro compounds with sodium alkyl thiolates results in a direct reaction with the corresponding aromatic thioethers.

The execution of lithiation reactions on a large scale requires a special infrastructure, which we provide to our customers. For this purpose, we operate a dedicated system from storage tanks for lithium reagents and piping systems to the corresponding safety equipment and automated processes.

In addition to chlorine oxidation, CABB also carries out hydrogen peroxide oxidation. The use of hydrogen peroxide for the oxidation of aliphatic thiols and thioethers to sulfonyl chlorides, sulfoxides and sulfones is an alternative to chlorine oxidation. In addition, oxidation reactions can be carried out using air on a catalyst.

The reduction of aromatic nitro compounds with hydrogen in the presence of catalysts leads to the corresponding aromatic amines, aryl halides are reduced to aromatics.

Such reduction processes in the presence of palladium or platinum catalysts are routinely carried out at our site in Kokkola, Finland, based on a solid infrastructure for safe handling of the material.

The Wolff-Kishner reaction is used to reduce carboxyl compounds to alkane in a direct and selective way. At CABB in particular, it is also an example of the conversion of batch to continuous process.

The continuous process is more uniform, safer and more stable, increasing both yield and quality.

CABB operates a specific plant for this reaction and has extensive experience in the design and operation of continuous production processes.

CABB’s terpene chemistry is based on the conversion of α-pinene to camphene, yielding further camphene derivatives for different applications. Terpenes are a class of biobased, renewable raw materials and also occur as part of the so-called “biorefinery”.
