Other reaction types

In addition to the core technologies chlorination and sulfonation, CABB performs a number of other standard reactions. Based on many years of know-how and the required process technology, plants and infrastructure, we offer our customers flexible and reliable solutions. The reactions listed in the toolbox further expand our repertoire.

CABB has the infrastructure and know-how to carry out bromination on a large industrial scale. We operate a dedicated system ranging from storage tanks and piping systems to the appropriate safety equipment.

Your benefits:

  • Extensive experience in carrying out bromination reactions
  • Infrastructure for bromination on a large commercial scale

The Suzuki coupling reaction is used to obtain biphenyl compounds via cross-coupling. For this purpose aryl halides are reacted with aryl boric acid derivatives. CABB has extensive production expertise in the safe handling of these processes.

Your benefits:

  • Recycling and reuse of catalysts
  • Robust and safe production processes

The Grignard reaction is a method for linking carbon-carbon single bonds. In order to produce the corresponding alcohols, mainly nucleophilic alkyl or aryl magnesium halides are reacted with electrophilic carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes, ketones or esters. Grignard reagents are also important for the preparation of boron derivatives, which are subsequently used in the Suzuki coupling reaction.

Your benefits:

  • Substantial experience with Grignard reactions
  • Robust and safe processes for handling hazardous reagents and intermediates

The reaction of aromatic nitro compounds with sodium alkyl thiolates results in a direct reaction with the corresponding aromatic thioethers.

CABB is particularly well equipped to carry out these reactions. In addition to the necessary expertise, we also have our own incineration plant for the removal of odorous raw materials and products.

Your benefits:

  • Professional handling of odor-intensive raw materials and materials
  • Substantial experience with thioalkylation reactions

The execution of lithiation reactions on a large scale requires a special infrastructure, which we provide to our customers. For this purpose, we operate a dedicated system from storage tanks for lithium reagents and piping systems to the corresponding safety equipment and automated processes.

Your benefits:

  • Substantial experience in carrying out lithiation reactions
  • Infrastructure for lithiation on a large commercial scale
  • Robust and safe processes for handling hazardous reagents

In addition to chlorine oxidation, CABB also carries out hydrogen peroxide oxidation. The use of hydrogen peroxide for the oxidation of aliphatic thiols and thioethers to sulfonyl chlorides, sulfoxides and sulfones is an alternative to chlorine oxidation. In addition, oxidation reactions can be carried out using air on a catalyst.

Your benefits:

  • Extensive experience in handling hydrogen peroxide reactions
  • Robust and safe production processes

The reduction of aromatic nitro compounds with hydrogen in the presence of catalysts leads to the corresponding aromatic amines, aryl halides are reduced to aromatics.

Such reduction processes in the presence of palladium or platinum catalysts are routinely carried out at our site in Kokkola, Finland, based on a solid infrastructure for safe handling of the material.

Your benefits:

  • Safe handling of pyrophoric catalysts
  • Robust and safe production processes

The Wolff-Kishner reaction is used to reduce carboxyl compounds to alkane in a direct and selective way. At CABB in particular, it is also an example of the conversion of batch to continuous process.

The continuous process is more uniform, safer and more stable, increasing both yield and quality.

CABB operates a specific plant for this reaction and has extensive experience in the design and operation of continuous production processes.

Your benefits:

  • Expertise in converting batch into continuous processes
  • Robust and safe production processes

CABB’s terpene chemistry is based on the conversion of α-pinene to camphene, yielding further camphene derivatives for different applications. Terpenes are a class of biobased, renewable raw materials and also occur as part of the so-called “biorefinery”.

CABB is the only European manufacturer of camphene. Based on our process and technology knowledge we offer innovative camphene derivatives.

Your benefits:

  • Expertise in the technology of camphene derivatives
  • Only camphor manufacturer in Europe

Numerous further chemical reactions complete our capacities for multi-stage syntheses. These reaction types are routinely performed in addition to the main reactions. The table provides an overview of the most common reactions.
