CABB GmbH Gersthofen: Advancing Sustainable Chemistry with ISCC PLUS and RFNBO Certification
CABB GmbH’s production site in Gersthofen is strengthening its role as a frontrunner in sustainable chemical manufacturing. The site operates a modern chloralkali electrolysis unit that produces chlorine, caustic soda, and hydrogen – essential building blocks for many industrial value chains. By sourcing a defined share of renewable electricity through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), CABB can assign this renewable input to part of its production via a transparent massbalance method. As a result, a share of the site’s output is now ISCC PLUS certified, allowing customers to benefit from traceable, sustainably attributed materials.
A key highlight of this development is the certification of hydrogen produced at the site as ISCC RFNBO (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin). This certification confirms that hydrogen meets stringent EU requirements for renewable fuels based on renewable electricity input and verified greenhouse gas criteria. With this achievement, CABB GmbH is among the first five companies in Europe to secure ISCC RFNBO certification for green hydrogen – marking an important step for the chemical sector’s transition toward climate-neutral feedstocks and energy carriers.
These certifications offer tangible value to customers:
- Clear and credible sustainability claims supported by third-party audits
- Improved transparency in supply chains
- Support for meeting Scope 3 reduction targets and compliance requirements
- Access to certified materials without major changes in existing product formulations
CABB continues to expand its portfolio of sustainable solutions and remains committed to providing customers with reliable, certified options as markets and regulations evolve.
