  • CABB Group publishes its Sustainability Report with more key figures and new ESG targets
  • Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions and water consumption are down
  • Platinum rating from EcoVadis for the Kokkola site

The CABB Group’s Sustainability Report for last year presents a comprehensive account of objectives and which targets were achieved in the areas of environmental, social and corporate governance, and it is even broader in scope than the previous year’s report.

The CABB Group’s sustainability strategy specifies concrete interim targets for 2025 and 2030 in all areas, with 2019 forming the starting year in each case. The company was able to further reduce its own direct and indirect CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) over the past year, thus continuing the trend of the previous several years. This year, for the first time, CABB is reporting the emissions throughout the whole value chain (Scope 3). CABB Group, a leading contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) supplying customized active ingredients in the field of crop sciences and offering high-complexity and high-purity chemical ingredients to customers in the Life Sciences and Performance Materials markets, aims to reduce them by 10% by 2030, compared to 2019. In 2022, emissions were still up by 5.6%. Regarding this, CABB Group CEO Valerie Diele-Braun says: “Reducing CO2 emissions across the entire value chain is a very great challenge for our industry. Therefore, it is our duty not only to improve ourselves continually, but also to encourage our partners and suppliers and work together with them to find new sustainable solutions”.

In addition to this, water consumption was reduced by almost 8%. The company invested a total of EUR 64 million last year in the renewal and expansion of its production facilities. It should also be emphasized that the proportion of female employees in the company and in its management has increased. Another feature of the 2022 Sustainability Report is its increased transparency, including disclosure of the gender pay gap.

CABB Group has been a member of the global initiative Together for Sustainability (TfS) since April 2022. The initiative is a collaboration of internationally operating chemical companies that are committed to sustainability and are striving to implement it by means of global standards and audits within their supply chains. The EcoVadis platform is used for this purpose. The Kokkola site has just been awarded the platinum rating by EcoVadis, the highest rating possible. The CABB sites in Switzerland and Germany were awarded gold status. In 2023, EcoVadis will assess the Galena/USA site for the first time. In addition to this, CABB Group is working to determine the carbon footprint of its products so that it can provide this information for the customers.
